UX260

59. What is a UX260?

A 260cc heavy duty compressor with direct or bolt through mounting points and is available in a variety of A and B and polygroove section clutches in both 12 and 24 volt.

60. Which is the most popular UX260?

The two most popular UX260 models are the UX260-3865 which has a AA section 24 volt clutch and the UX260-4755 which has a BB section 24 volt clutch. Both these compressors are widely used in heavy duty applications particularly in twin systems for small mini bus vehicles.

61. What is unique about the UX260?

It is the only 10 cylinder swashplate compressor available in this size. This 10 cylinder operation provides superior output at low revs and right through the rev range. Also the UX260 has an oil sight glass and service valves fitted as standard features. The compressor operates in either clockwise or counter clockwise directions.

62. In which applications is the UX260 mostly fitted?

Mostly in mini bus, military, truck and tractor applications. It has become an ideal choice for designers of airconditioning systems that require the output available from the UX260.

63. What kind of hose ports does the UX260 have?

Pad or flange type hose ports which have a unique Unicla design. The most common fittings used on these ports are no.8 and no.12 o-ring or flare flange type.

64. Does the UX260 have low and high side service valves?

Yes, most UX260 models have both service valves fitted as standard.

65. Is there an oil return port available for the UX260?

Yes, an oil return port is a standard feature of the UX260 and its position can be interchanged with the low side service valve.

66. Should an oil separator be used with the UX260?

It is recommended that in any application where oil return to the compressor is of a concern, then an oil separator should be used. The Unicla oil separator part no. OS000010. is easily fitted into the discharge line and is recommended for use with the UX260.

67. In large systems, how much oil should be added when using a UX260?

As a general rule, the total oil capacity of the system should equal 20% of the system refrigerant capacity. For example, if a system holds 4 kg of refrigerant, then 20% x 4000 grams = 800 grams. This converts to 800cc of oil being required. The UX260 already has 500cc, therefore 800cc – 500cc = 300cc of additional oil is required.

68. Is a clutch protection device available for the UX260?

Yes, the Unicla lock sensor is available as an accessory for the UX260. This sensor system determines if a compressor problem has occurred and disengages the compressor clutch to save further damage to these components and the belt. It is recommended this system is used on mono-belt applications where it is necessary to preserve the belt so that it continues other functions.
